Let it Snow, Let it Snow, Let it Snow

So Elijah is in the very back of the van saying out loud in our louder voice..."God please I am begging you for snow."

Well I am glad he knows who to ask, but it's Southern CA, come on kid, and I'm not breaking the news to him that, well, we won't get snow, so I'll just let him beg. He saw my sisters photos of her house with all the beautiful snow they are experiencing and I am in the kitchen cooking dinner as he looks at the pictures and his response, is.... " I dont want to SEE it I want to FEEL it!" So we were heading out to school this morning and lo and behold, there was snow upon the mountains near us. Very Cool!!! Maybe we can find a place to play in it, so he can FEEL it.

Tradition

Each year I make Gingerbread Men cookies. We love them!! The kids at school are asking if I am making them for the class again this year, and the answer is "No", the kids made them these fun little reindeer instead, because of time. But I did make a special batch of Gingerbread Boys for the older folks Elijah is going to visit today. He keeps calling them "sick in the brain". Poor old people, kids just don't understand. My kids and I are planning on making our own batch of Gingerbread Men during their Christmas break, which I can't wait for, only 2 1/2 more days left.

A Christmas Tag

So I got tagged with one of those e-mails that wants your friends to get to know you. I am posting it here instead of sending it to all of you. Here it goes....

1. Wrapping paper or gift bags? - Wrapping paper
2. Real tree or Artificial? - I'm not a big fan of potential fires here in Southern CA so since we have lived here an Artificial, but when we get home Real for sure!!!
3. When do you put up the tree? When we can, usually the first weekend in Dec.
4. When do you take the tree down? Again when we can, usually the first weekend in Jan.
5. Do you like eggnog? Nope
6. Favorite gift received as a child? Cabbage Patch Doll
7. Hardest person to buy for? Not sure
8. Easiest person to buy for? My kids are the easiest for me.
9. Do You have a nativity scene? Dude of course, why do we celebrate Christmas!?
10. Mail or email Christmas cards? I am really not very good about getting Christmas cards out but when I do I mail them. Can you e-mail them?
11. Worst Christmas gift you ever received? A computer mouse, yes a computer mouse!
12. Favorite Christmas Movie? I'm not sure, but I really do love The Little House on the Prairie's Christmas.
13. When do you start shopping for Christmas? When I can.
14. Have you ever recycled a Christmas present? Not sure I can say I have. But maybe.
15. Favorite thing to eat at Christmas? Yummy food. Knot rolls are for sure on the list from my kids.
16. Lights on the tree? White lights
17. Favorite Christmas song? - Lots, but What Child is this, and Immanuel
18. Travel at Christmas or stay home? - We are staying home this year.
19. Can you name all of Santa's Reindeers? - Who is Santa? And he has Reindeer? No I can't
20. Angel on the tree top or a star? Angel
21. Open the presents Christmas Eve or morning? Our family opens on Christmas Morning.
22 . Most annoying thing about this time of the year? That Christ is left out of the celebration of His birth.
23. Favorite ornament theme or color? Okay I have no theme or color but my favorite ornament is my stained glass Clown that I was given as a wee child.
24. What do you want for Christmas this year? I was just asked this question by my teenager last night and my response was ..."I haven't even had a moment to think about it!" But I would say right now a new camera, since mine is broken.

All things Christmas

As you can see I have FINALLY gotten to my blog. I had many things to say in November, but had so little time even with a week long vacation. So all month I will be posting nothing but Christmas stuff. I hope you enjoy the sounds of Christmas on here and the new Christmassy look too. Photo's may be sparse due to the camera issue but hopefully my words will help paint beautiful pictures of Christmas at my house in your minds. So MERRY CHRISTMAS to you all!!

Good Citizen Award

Our Elijah has received the Good Citizen Award for the month of October this year.

Here is what his teacher had to say say about him.

Elijah, it is a true blessing to have you in first grade this year. What you have brought to our classroom is

* Joy - in your attitude, in all you do

* Diligence - to do your work carefully and faithfully until it is done

* Perseverance - to not get discouraged or give up, but to ask for help when you don't understand

* Obedience - to follow classroom standards, including self-control

I think the part of this that pleases me most is that you do all of these things because you know it is what the Lord would be pleased with according to His word. Thank You for your desire to learn, improve, and please Him. As you grow may you always find His joy as your strength.

Deuteronomy 4:29 says "...you will seek the Lord your God, and you will find Him if you seek Him with all your heart and with all your soul."

I pray Elijah that you would continue seeking Him with all your heart until you find Him as your All-Sufficiency - your personal Lord and Savior.

Shopping

I know you are probably wondering why I would write on shopping, seeing as I cannot stand shopping. I only go to the mall when forced to, like School shopping and we really only hit Old Navy, JC Penney's and maybe the Children's place. But today holds something rare and fun in going shopping.

So I was planning on taking Hannah to Steve and Barry's in Burbank tomorrow (which we still may do) but my only reason for going would be to pick up some cheap clothes, I don't care if they get ruined. You see Hannah and I are going on a field trip next week and we will work eat and sleep on a boat all while pretending to be in the 1800's. So we will be long haired sailors! We will be wet and tired and hopefully we won't get crabby although they fit together so well. Thus the need for clothes.
She needs a coat, not tattered pants (which I cannot understand why she cant wear jeans that are meant for working), and some boots. So among all that this week has to offer, I am trying to prepare myself so as to not get behind in anything and forget things that are of utmost importance, like snacks for Football boys on Monday (yikes that is not even on my grocery list), see the need for preparedness and lists?! My so smart husband said to me, why don't you look at a thrift store, and I would straight up plant a huge kiss if we weren't on the phone, because that is more of a place I would rather go to it's always such fun, it's like a treasure box! I am not kidding, I truly enjoy thrift stores. It is a place that is hard to take a list into and follow, it's all so exciting, so many things need to be paroozed! Now that my husband has given me hope in this shopping trip, I must add that this is not the only place for this busy mom to go.
Grocery shopping is included - Trader Joes, Vons and Costco. But first I will hit the thrift shop.
Thank you for listening to me rant on such a meaningless topic but it had been a while since my last post. Please forgive the bad grammar and run on sentences, but I am trying to run out the door. And thanks Babe for giving me the idea of the thrift store, I love you!
